Words I Wrote along the Way

Riding the Waves

Beneath the roaring waves I sink again
I hold my breath as my body bends
'This is the end,' I fearfully say
My life will end in the surf on this day

Bottom is top and 'round I go
Which way is up I do not know
Caught in the tide and out of control
I pray to God in this fierce undertow

The waves they break and I see the light
I gasp for breath though the wave's dark night
From my watery grave I am released
The crashing waves their roar does now cease

I swim to shore and stumble on land
My life was spared as I lie on the sand
Another sunset my eyes will hopefully see
Another day for me was now meant to be

But I must never forget what happened that day
When my precious life almost washed away
Through roaring seas I'll ride once more
And by the grace of God I'll again walk the shore
