Below are examples where both male and female singers are mentioned within the same Biblical account. These male and female singers were most likely professional families of singers and not related to the Levite singers, which from all Biblical accounts were male. It is also interesting to note that the account in 2 Samuel 19:35 (19:36) relates to discussions held between David and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim. David also instructs his son Solomon to treat the family of Barzillai with great respect for the kindnesses shown him when fleeing from Absalom (1 Kings 2:7). The later parallel accounts in Ezra and Nehemiah, referencing the list of the personnel returning after the exile which included 200-240 male and female singers, also reference Barzillai (Ezra 2:61 and Nehemiah 7:63) as a family into which one of the priestly lineage married into. All of these accounts, including Ecclesiastes 2:8 in which Solomon is discussing his acquired property and personnel, apparently do not refer to the exclusively male Levite singers.
