GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL (July 5, 2000) -- The U.S. Navy Band regales tens of thousands of commuters at a rush hour concert on the stairs at the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) Grand Central Terminal the day after the International Review 2000 Parade of Ships. The hour long concert included an array of Navy standards such as "Anchors Aweigh," but featured the inaugural playing of "The Grand Central March," a Sousa style march composed by former Navy musician, Dennis McCorkle, who now works for the MTA as a computer specialist. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 200,000 commuters passed through the terminal while the band played. U.S. Navy photo by PH3 Michael Anderson. |
