(main palace room - Citadel of DAVID in Jerusalem) [Instrumental - Under Dialogue] (The funeral of KING DAVID is beginning. Family members, townspeople and the king's troupes are solemnly gathered to pay their respects to their king.) SOLOMON Today we lay to rest DAVID son of JESSE. His life, his faith, his triumphs and his even his failures have challenged and changed the course of our peoples' destiny forever. DAVID was the essence of our humanity, our hopes and all of our dreams. To you BATHSHEBA...he was your husband. (SOLOMON goes respectfully to each person
and as appropriate, Dear NATHAN (endearingly), you along with SAMUEL were his trusted friends and advisors. I know if SAMUEL were still with us today he would have said, 'what a handful' he had been for both of you? (With a slight smile of unspoken
understanding on their faces. And to you men who have served him so valiantly, he was your Commander and Chief. Captain of the Guard, bring the men to attention! CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD He' yup! (The TROUPES, who were at 'parade
rest' snap to attention, SOLOMON He was a warrior! (loudly) (SOLOMON raises his hand and points to the
sword and shield of He was a shepherd! (DAVID's shepherd's crook and rod are lit. Rear Wall - S.R.) He made the melodies that all of Israel sang. (DAVID's lyre is lit on the wall. Rear Wall - S.L.) And he was called "a man...after God's own heart." ( The Ark of the Covenant is lightly highlighted through the middle archway of the room that looks out to the courtyard onto the tent that housed the Ark.) But to us all...he was the King! (The royal shield bearing the Lion of the
Tribe of Judah is lit. Rear Wall - C.S.. Like the wind through the Mulberry trees, the days of our lives have rushed by so quickly. It was only eighty years ago when the last of the Judges shepherded Israel. It was a time a growth. It was a time of change. It was the time when the whispers of the wind that carried us here were first heard. This was where is all started and this is where it all began with 'The Kings'! |
