The Song of the Levite |
Musical System |
At the heart of the musical system of the Levites were three instruments referred to the Hebrew texts as the instruments of song or the song instruments (lit. devices of song or song devices): the harp, lyre and the cymbals. The harp and lyre were classified as string instruments and played by the Levite musicians. The third instrument, a unique type of cymbal, was exclusively delegated to the Levite singers.
